Hi! This is my first post and I’ll start it off by letting you all know a little bit about myself. My name is Marcie. I’m here because I’m a freeride mountain biking machine (haha). I work to live and I live to ride. So apparently that has been the case for the last 8 yrs or so anyways. Much of the things that I do, people I meet, places I go are all because of this wonderful sport. I moved to Kamloops two years ago, and for 6 yrs. prior to that I lived and played on the famous North Shore mountains. I moved here to get away from the big city, buy property, decrease stress and increase my quality of life. So far things have been working out quite nicely. Though I miss my friends and the technical riding of Shore, I don’t regret this decision one bit. I love Kamloops. The trails here are so fun, fast and flowy. I’m used to a bit more selection as well, so since we’ve been here, my boyfriend, Jason, and I have been getting active into trail building and maintaining. I never realized how much satisfaction I’d get out of helping with trail work, and though I’m not that great at it yet, I’ve been pretty lucky to have been able to get out with a few of the best trail builders around so I’m learning what it takes – everything from the vision of where the line will go to the actual clearing and sculpting of the trail. It’s such a good feeling to get out there and put that time in.
After winning the Slope Sistair contest in ’05, I pretty much took 2 years off from riding due to various injuries, so when I was able to actually get out to ride this past season, I had more of an appreciation for being able to just get out and ride so I did it with full force and aggression and was able to push my limits all season long. We got to ride all over BC and I was able to do some of the biggest drops and jumps I’ve ever done. This year, with the help of Bicycle Cafe and all the team sponsors, I’m going to continue on this path. I’ve got the resources, great teammates that kill it, and most importantly a positive attitude that just won’t give up. I’m stoked!
